The Fertile Void

The Fertile Void

In my youth, I could wait but
it didn’t feel like waiting
Less distractions then,
alone in the stairwell of my college dorm
the sound echoed deep

Could enjoy my voice
     without judging
while melodies and words
 came in, in their time
     Completely forgetting the cries
     of the outside world

Now I stand before you, without definition
         withholding all knowing
to learn this again,
this completely forgetting and at times
          exasperating discomfort of waiting for
unknown voices
to arrive
